- ➤ West Valley Humane Society will no longer accept stray animals in Canyon County as it prepares to vacate the shelter by Feb. 1; local animal control will now handle public strays while a new contract with Copper Quill Haven is finalized. KTVB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Debbie Critchfield announced her 2026 re-election bid for Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction yesterday. Her campaign will focus on enhancing classroom fundamentals and student outcomes ahead of the May 19 primary. KBOI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Idaho Department of Water Resources says that although statewide precipitation remains above normal, warm temperatures have reduced snow accumulation in many mountain basins, putting western Idaho at risk of drought while some basins are nearly on schedule. Forecasts predict active weather next week & a drier period afterwards. KBOI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new flu strain caused doctor visits to hit a 15-year high last December, and state epidemiologist Dr. Christine Hahn said fewer Idaho residents are getting their shots. Residents can still get flu shots or antivirals as the season lasts through March. KBOI
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Former Boise State standouts will chase a Super Bowl berth in NFL Wild Card games next week. Ezra Cleveland and Khalil Shakir will face off as the Jaguars host the Bills at EverBank Stadium (11 a.m. MT Sunday) while Scott Matlock plays with the Chargers later Sunday. KTVB
