COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, faith leaders hold an interfaith prayer vigil in the Capitol — a multi-faith event — from 12:40 to 2 p.m. as the session begins, while a regional town hall meets at City Hall at 6 p.m.; BSU women's basketball meets Wyoming at ExtraMile Arena at 6:30 p.m.  KIVI
  • Nampa firefighters practice live-fire training in a donated house for realistic emergency drills (the house was once used for SWAT training) this week. Crews from six stations simulate structure, basement, and roof fires over the coming weeks.  KIVI
  • Founded in 2001, the Idaho Women’s Charitable Foundation has donated over $6.6 million across Southwest Idaho through a giving circle of 440 members – awarding grants each May. The group plans to give $300,000 in 2026 across six focus areas and welcomes new members this January.  KTVB
  • The Treasure Valley Partnership hosted a Regional Town Hall Wednesday, Jan. 14 at Nampa City Hall Council Chambers to discuss growth, public safety, infrastructure, and quality of life with local and regional leaders (including Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam, Boise Mayor Lauren McLean, Eagle Mayor Brad Pike, Kuna Mayor Joe Stear, Star Mayor Trevor Chadwick and Canyon County Commissioner Zach Brooks).  KIVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Canyon County experts outlined safe online practices for children — advising parents to monitor digital activities and discuss potential risks with their kids in the local community.  Idaho Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Tax Commission opens applications for the Parental Choice Tax Credit today at 12:01 a.m. Families can apply for up to $5,000 for K-12 students + up to $7,500 for students with disabilities to cover nonpublic school expenses through the TAP portal.  KIVI
  • Idaho Medicaid now limits therapy visits to 20 per year for patients as of Jan. 1; Gov. Brad Little’s FY27 budget plan proposes ending coverage entirely. Providers (serving Nampa and surrounding areas) plan to meet with IDHW on Friday to work on avoiding treatment gaps.  KTVB

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Bogus Basin is launching limited night skiing and riding today through Sunday for the MLK holiday weekend. Lifts run until 10 p.m. plus free guided snowshoe tours, tubing, resumed public bus service, and food service at Bogus Creek Lodge add to the experience.  KBOI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Boise State head coach Chris Petersen was named to the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class by the National Football Foundation, marking the first time a Boise State coach has received this honor. He will be inducted on Dec. 8 in Las Vegas.  KBOI
