EDUCATION NEWS

  • The House Education Committee passed a bill requiring all kindergarten to 12th grade public schools to hold a one minute silence each school day; supporters say it may boost student mental health * while some parents and teachers worry about peer pressure, and the measure now awaits debate.  KTVB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho water managers warn only six weeks remain for winter storms to boost snowpack for irrigation. Fall rains left reservoirs near Boise and Payette strong, but the Central Mountains and Owyhee Basin remain far below normal after an unusually warm winter with snow confined to high elevations.  KBOI
  • The Idaho Department of Water Resources met on Thursday in Boise to review record warm winter temperatures and low snow levels across 26 counties that may cause below normal spring runoff. Water managers said 6 weeks remain to reverse the trend — ahead of declining Snake River reservoir levels.  KIVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho State Tax Commission said taxpayers who filed 2025 returns with the standard deduction will get an automatic increase (those seeking other new deductions must wait for guidance until mid-March). The April 15 filing deadline remains, with extensions available for qualifying payments.  KIVI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Idaho native Hilary Knight will serve as Team USA flagbearer at the upcoming closing ceremony at the Winter Olympics in Milan — a milestone that adds to her record-setting Olympic goals and follows her recent engagement to teammate Brittany Bowe.  KIVI
  • Kristin Armstrong and Hilary Knight, two celebrated Olympians from Idaho (hailing from our local heritage), added to Team USA’s legacy at the Winter Games on Friday. Their performances highlight Idaho’s strong Olympic tradition and bring local pride.  KTVB
