ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farmers in Treasure Valley are facing higher fuel and fertilizer costs tied to the war with Iran, which may lead to grocery price increases over the next six months. Local growers like Quey’s Farm in Mountain Home are adjusting expenses + seeking better supply chains.  KIVI
  • Gas prices in Idaho average over $4.30 a gallon and may climb as suppliers switch to summer blend gasoline (AAA reports the trend affecting many drivers). Local motorists could adjust travel plans today as fuel costs remain high.  KBOI
  • Idaho Power is asking for a 3% increase on electric bills (pending approval by the Idaho Public Utilities Commission). Residents may see higher rates this year if the request is approved.  Idaho Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho State Department of Agriculture opened watercraft inspection stations statewide for the 2026 season to help stop the spread of quagga and zebra mussels. Boaters must stop at each station — cleaning, draining, and drying their watercraft to protect local waterways.  KBOI

  • Idaho’s rural counties will receive $24 million under the Secure Rural Schools program, with 30% set aside for school support and 70% for roads and bridges. State officials announced the funding to help communities reliant on federal lands.  KTVB
  • Idaho has released a new America 250 license plate featuring a red, white, & blue design to celebrate the nation’s semiquincentennial this summer. It is available statewide through DMV offices and online, with an added fee supporting Historical Society programs.  KIVI
