COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Nampa City Council approved a new sports court facility at West Park on April 20 that will add horseshoe pits, cornhole, & bocce ball multi-sport courts, with BriCon Inc. beginning work on or before July 6 and finishing by Sept. 4 using funds from a fiscal reallocation.  KTVB
  • Old Country Sausage near Library Square struggled with access during 11th Avenue construction, but community support kept the shop busy as the city eased traffic disruptions. The project will finish in September.  KIVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 250 Treasure Valley students are building 13 sheds for local veterans at the 5th annual Construction Combine in Meridian today. The event (supported by the Home Depot Foundation and a local contractor) gives hands-on training in trades and community support.  KIVI
  • Amid state budget cuts, the Idaho State Board of Education approved higher tuition rates at public, four-year colleges. The new rates will take effect in upcoming terms.  Idaho Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal rule limiting CDLs to H-2A and H-2B visa holders led Idaho lawmakers to pass a law requiring drivers to show legal residency, and the state's DOT has sent letters to nonresident drivers + some have already lost jobs in transportation.  KTVB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Boise State Athletics received a transformative gift from Ryan and Monica Okelberry to boost its North End Zone Project, which will improve facilities for student-athletes and create a community gathering space today. The philanthropists, longtime season ticket holders, said the donation reflects their deep ties to the university and region.  KBOI
