EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 28, Caldwell School District discussed the impact of immigration crackdowns on student families, noting one family was in deportation proceedings and another had a deported father with their high school graduate now serving as the breadwinner. Superintendent French told the board that the district does not share sensitive student directory information without parental consent.  KTVB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A University of Idaho entomologist confirmed an exotic beetle from the Mediterranean has been found in Treasure Valley where its larvae have infested homes with pests that are hard to control. Experts will study the pest + plan steps to stop its spread.  Idaho Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • IDFG said that applications for controlled big-game hunts and fall turkey and swan hunts opened on May 1, while the spring turkey season will close on May 25 and the first Super Hunt drawing deadline will fall on May 31 — missing these deadlines means many may not join the season. A public hearing will be held on May 21 with a business meeting on May 22 in Idaho Falls, and department offices will be closed on May 26 for Memorial Day.  KTVB
