Good morning, Nampa. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 5th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sunday Distro, started by volunteer Kayla in November 2025, will gather people at Rhodes Skate Park every Sunday at 3:30 p.m. to provide hot food, clothing, hygiene items, and other essentials to 70–100 community members — a weekly service built on mutual support.  KBOI
  • Today, Idaho's largest collective giving campaign kicks off at the Treasure Valley YMCA Spin-a-thon as early morning riders, including KTVB's Hector Mendoza, ride to support local causes.  KTVB
  • Roaring Springs will launch its summer season on Saturday, May 9 by debuting a new water ride called The Hive for Make-A-Wish Idaho families at 10:30 a.m., and the park will run 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. this weekend and next before daily operations begin on May 22.  KBOI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Idaho rose 13 cents last week to average $4.46 per gallon (AAA noted geopolitical tensions are driving higher crude costs) and represent an increase of over $1.17 from this time last year. The rise adds uncertainty to the state's fuel market.  KBOI
  • Global tensions have raised diesel prices 35% at Gutierrez Family Farms in Nampa, forcing a switch from alfalfa to sorghum to lower fuel needs. Local farmers across Canyon County are adapting to rising diesel rates and an approaching drought — changes that affect daily operations.  KIVI
  • March data from the Idaho Department of Labor shows the unemployment rate fell from 3.7% to 3.6% and nonfarm jobs increased by 2,100—gains seen in several industry sectors. The labor force dropped by 2,286 to 1,005,848 between February and March.  KBOI
  • Idaho Power filed two cost adjustment applications with the Public Utilities Commission so customer rates may rise; if approved, residential bills based on a 900-kilowatt-hour usage could increase about $3.64 and other rate categories may also see changes.  KBOI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The College of Western Idaho says community events continue at the Ford Idaho Center as scheduled. The facility, now under CWI management since December and governed by a 10-year agreement, hosts the Best Little Derby in the West this week to boost local business and provide student workforce opportunities.  KTVB

HEALTH NEWS

  • May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and experts advise using sunscreen (SPF 30 minimum) or light-colored, long-sleeved clothing to lower melanoma risk, which is highest in Idaho; parents are encouraged to help children reapply sunscreen every two hours when outdoors.  KTVB
  • Nampa resident Edith Amaral turned 106 and credits her long life to a healthy diet. Her milestone serves as a reminder of the benefits of good nutrition + a life well lived in our community.  Idaho Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Boise State golfer Leia Chung, returning from a back injury, won the Mountain West Women’s Golf Championship today with a record low round + earned an NCAA Regional berth, ending a 33 year title drought for the program.  KTVB
