COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Idaho Humane Society rescued 119 poodles from an Elmore County property over the past two months and expects more dogs soon; the shelter provided spay and neuter care to prevent further litters and is asking locals to donate during Idaho Gives (through May 7) to cover rising medical expenses.  KIVI
  • West Park in Nampa is set to receive new horseshoe, bocce and cornhole courts this summer as part of a park refresh. Construction will begin in July and finish by the end of September.  KIVI
  • CBS2, FOX9 and 89.5 KTSY are partnering to support Foster + Heart by providing essential supplies to families caring for foster children in Idaho. The initiative aims to address urgent needs in the community.  KBOI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla in 1862, a significant moment when Mexican forces overcame a larger French army. The Idaho Hispanic society is hosting an event with performances and traditional food to honor this history.  KBOI

  • Job seekers will meet local employers at the Spring Idaho Job & Career Fair on Thursday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott (1789 S. Eagle Road in Meridian), where recruiters will share openings for various career levels.  KBOI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Emmett High School student council will host a color run Saturday, May 9 at Gem Island Sports Complex to raise funds for Emerson Hardman, recovering from a hemorrhagic stroke. Neighbors are encouraged to wear burgundy or red T-shirts (Emerson's favorite colors) as proceeds support his medical care.  KIVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho has adopted the 'Ready, Set, Go' wildfire evacuation program to simplify emergency alerts as wildfire season nears during a dry spring. State officials and local agencies will use the system (defining three levels: Ready, Set, Go) to guide residents in preparing to evacuate if needed.  KIVI

HEALTH NEWS

  • As temperatures rise across Idaho, instructors at Goldfish Swim School warn families about water risks near pools, lakes + canals. They stress beginning swim lessons early and closely supervising children to reduce drowning risks.  KBOI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Community leaders and developers gathered Tuesday to kick off construction on the 222-acre District at Ten Mile project near I-84 in Meridian. Crews already moved 85 football fields of dirt as they paved Grand Mogul Drive to connect local routes.  KIVI
