Good morning, Nampa. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 21st of May.

CRIME NEWS

  • Idaho livestock owners face a growing risk of theft as record-high animal prices attract thieves, and state officials say branding animals can deter crime — boosting the chances of recovered livestock by 90%.  KTVB
  • Nampa Police are searching for 49-year-old Joshua S. Cornelius of Nampa after his family reported they had not heard from him in a while, and police say he drives a dark blue 2015 Jeep Patriot (license plate N0MADIC) that may have taken him alone to the mountains.  KIVI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nampa will not fill the full-time director position at the Hispanic Cultural Center for cost-saving reasons, and a temporary agreement with the Hispanic Foundation of Idaho + is covering after-hours events until a new director is named.  KTVB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Power proposed reducing the rate paid for excess solar energy and over 70 homeowners protested at the Public Utilities Commission hearing on Tuesday. The company said lower market prices led to the proposal—critics warn the 80% rate cut will hurt solar investments—while a vote on the plan will be scheduled soon.  KTVB
  • The Idaho DMV announced that new legislative changes will update license plates and permits, including a redesigned Don't Tread on Me plate with a full yellow background (effective July 1) and revised procedures for agency, instructional, and towing services. Some changes are already available, while others will roll out gradually in early January.  KTVB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Starting this summer, Idaho will expand its 988 crisis line to offer 24/7 mobile behavioral health support statewide. Nampa PD will add a licensed social worker to work with officers by June — a move that strengthens local mental health response.  KIVI
