- ➤ Using advanced DNA and ballistics testing, police arrested 54-year-old Mark Neal for the 2015 murder of Akrian Evans — evidence linked a bullet from Evans’ head to a damaged revolver found at Neal’s home — and he remains in custody with a preliminary hearing set for June 24. KIVI

- ➤ A new SmartAsset study shows that an Idaho individual must earn $96,429 a year to live comfortably and a family of four needs $223,142 to cover all expenses — the state ranks 24th among 50 states in the income required for a balanced budget. KIVI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Senator Mike Crapo introduced a bipartisan bill in May to expand broadband access in rural Idaho by broadening the FCC's Universal Service Fund using a new tax on large tech companies—only those with over 3% market share and more than $5 billion in annual revenue will be assessed. He said the legislation may advance once Congress finishes work on a major government reform package. KTVB
- ➤ Today, the Idaho Transportation Department will shift traffic on Karcher Road from the Middleton Road intersection through the Midway Road intersection to allow work on widening the highway to four lanes, with one lane available from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.—drivers should expect the permanent removal of acceleration and deceleration lanes as the project continues until next year. - ➤ The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved a waiver that removes sugary drinks — candy and energy drinks — from SNAP benefits under Idaho House Bill 109, with the changes set to take effect in January 2026.
