CRIME NEWS

  • A Kuna woman was sentenced to 17 years in prison after a high-speed chase in Nampa ended when she crashed her Dodge Ram—fleeing a suspected drug deal at a Walmart parking lot—into an officer’s patrol car, injuring the officer and killing his police K9.  KIVI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Shige and Deborah Matsuzawa retired from Shige Sushi Express in Meridian after 30 years and served their final customers today—marking the close of a heritage that introduced Japanese cuisine to the Treasure Valley. New owners will take over in July, keeping the Shige name and menu to continue their legacy.  KTVB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A fire sparked by target shooting burned nearly 100 acres on public land about 10 miles south of Boise last week. BLM officials say shooters should avoid metal targets and use pre-burned areas during fire season — they advise carrying a shovel or water to help prevent accidental fires— to keep our lands safe.  KIVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nampa Fire Protection District announced Wednesday a burn ban due to hot, dry conditions that have increased wildfire risks—open burning such as yard waste and debris piles is prohibited until conditions improve, and officials urge residents to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.  KIVI
  • KTVB’s Chief Political Reporter Joe Parris said that Idaho might not face a true budget shortfall and that it may be better to lose spectacularly than force tougher cuts—adding a new twist to the debate over state spending. His remarks come as lawmakers consider their next steps on managing the budget.  KTVB

HEALTH NEWS

  • The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday in a 6–3 decision that lets states block Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood, a move that could reduce access to services like contraception and cancer screenings for low-income patients. Planned Parenthood said the ruling risks harm to thousands & fully expects Idaho lawmakers to block these funds.  KIVI
