COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Nampa can give feedback on a proposed project to build a new railroad crossing bridge — the plan also calls for reconfiguring an intersection in southeast Nampa. The feedback will help city officials shape future improvements for traffic and safety.  Idaho Press

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On July 28th, 1995, a wildfire near Kuna burned 10,000 acres and took the lives of two volunteer firefighters, Bill Buttram and Josh Oliver, whose loss led to new rules and better training for fire teams—changes that still guide safety today.  KTVB
  • A small plane crashed near Nampa Airport on Sunday, leaving residents in the Oak Street neighborhood shaken and noting that the pilot maneuvered to dodge homes—authorities are investigating the incident.  KIVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nampa School District is set to start classes on August 11 and will roll out new bus routes—drivers practiced new routes in early July, a call center opens on August 4, and further changes are planned after the first day. The district is also planning to propose a $34 million two-year levy to support higher staffing needs and additional student supports for special education and English language learners.  KTVB
  • Students in five technical programs at the College of Southern Idaho will benefit from a $75,000 grant from the Metallica Scholars Initiative to help pay for tools and gear—students in the Heavy-Duty Truck Diesel program will get $1,500 each and the College of Western Idaho in Nampa also will receive funds.  KIVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho’s new DOGE Task Force held its first meeting on July 25 to review state agencies for consolidation and cost reduction, led by Rep. Jeff Ehlers and Sen. Todd Lakey. The bipartisan committee asked citizens to submit ideas on government waste — it will meet monthly and present recommendations in the next legislative session.  KTVB

  • Chef Nikki from Eazy Peazy Kitchen grilled Mojo Chicken in a courtyard kitchen using ingredients from Albertsons to create a dish for end-of-summer backyard barbecues—she showed how to spatchcock the chicken and add a marinade of garlic, olive oil, herbs, citrus and spices before grilling until the meat reached 160 degrees.  KTVB
