Good morning, Nampa. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 12th of August.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community members filled Nampa City Council chambers Monday night to oppose a plan to transfer the Ford Idaho Center to the College of Western Idaho as a way to cover nearly $22 million in losses. Mayor Debbie Kling said the city is exploring its options and council members may vote on a tax override in November — speakers urged finding other ways to fund the center — so that visitors see no major changes.  KTVB
  • Today, Nampa School District students return to class while contractors start roadwork on the I-84 Flying Wye flyover—drivers will face lane closures on the westbound and flyover sections for about two weeks. Later today, Storey Park will host the Meridian Monday Night Market with local vendors, live music, and a mobile bar from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.  KIVI
  • Hundreds of Idaho veterans gather each month at the Warhawk Air Museum for Kilroy Coffee Klatch—where they enjoy free coffee, donuts, and the chance to share their service stories while a different speaker addresses the group. The monthly event, now the state’s largest veteran meet-up, invites all veterans to join in on this community tradition.  KTVB

CRIME NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Correction is searching for Justin Wallis (a 36-year-old Nampa Community Reentry Center resident who left his job site at 6 a.m. Monday and is 5 feet 6 inches tall with blue eyes, brown hair, and wearing tan pants with a black hoodie) and anyone with information is urged to call 911.  KIVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School is back and drivers must be alert for buses that extend their stop arms. Idaho law requires vehicles to stop on roads with three or fewer lanes + on roads with four lanes, drivers going the same direction must stop; violators face a $300 fine with a second offense leading to up to a $1,000 fine and possible jail time.  KIVI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Next week, the Idaho Transportation Department will permanently close three left-turn locations on Eagle Road on Aug. 18—one between Island Woods Drive and the Boise River, one northbound at Baldcypress St, and one southbound U-turn at Bourbon St—based on a safety study with community input. ITD will begin a microsurfacing project along Eagle Road on Monday with lane changes during night work until late September and will install variable speed limit signs later this year.  KIVI
