COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Idaho State Police are conducting water survival training for recruits in Meridian and Hwy 21 north of Grandjean is closed due to mudslides, with the roadway expected to reopen by next Wednesday. The Boise Film Festival kicks off today at the historic Egyptian Theatre + short films start at 7 p.m.  KIVI
  • The Ink & Iron Sisters ride will start at the Wilder Fire Dept. on October 5 to raise funds for local families affected by fires who need help with housing, food and clothing. The club will make a stop at the Idaho Today parking lot to share details about the cause.  KTVB

CULTURE NEWS

  • Farmway Village, once known as Caldwell Labor Camp, housed Midwestern migrants, Japanese Americans, and Bracero workers who built a community during hard times.  KTVB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CapEd Credit Union will host a cybersecurity class on October 7 to help Nampa residents learn how to protect their personal information online—Toby King leads the session and explains how to avoid being shown on the dark web.  KTVB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rep. Fulcher said that the government shutdown has begun — affecting nearly 11,000 federal workers as many agencies reduce operations until Congress approves further funding. He noted that the House sent a continuing resolution to support operations until November 21 and warned that a counterproposal might cut rural hospital funding in Idaho.  KBOI

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Luke’s released a new logo and redesigned website on Sept 17 to create a cohesive look for its health system—officials said the phased rollout will show both old and new designs as the update continues. The change ties together the system's hospitals and clinics to support its mission of quality community-focused care.  KTVB
  • A new report from Mental Health America ranked Idaho 48th in mental health care by using 17 measures such as rates of mental illness and access to treatment—revealing many adults and youth lacked needed care.  KBOI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Boise State will travel to South Bend Saturday to face Notre Dame in a Week 6 football game—kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time during a local watch party. Players plan to apply pressure on the Irish quarterback as they aim to make program history.  KIVI
