COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new boat ramp has been installed at Celebration Park in southwestern Idaho to give boaters safer access to the water—officials say the facility will boost local recreation.  Idaho Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jennie and Bryan Drollinger reconnected after 32 years apart and were named America’s Favorite Couple in a national contest that received 200,000 entries. They plan to use the $20,000 prize to create a novel and screenplay—showing that love and second chances can inspire others.  KIVI
  • HGTV stars Luke Caldwell and Clint Robertson, known as the Boise Boys, have announced a new independent home renovation series called Building Boise — it is filmed in Boise and will spotlight local partnerships, community stories and authentic home makeovers. The free-to-watch series will stream soon as the duo returns to their roots to celebrate Idaho design and local talent.  KTVB
  • Toby Gad — a Grammy-winning songwriter — will perform on Friday, October 17 at The Egyptian Theatre in an intimate concert that features reimagined versions of his hit songs and guest artists including cellist Dave Eggar and performers from IFAA. This one-night event promises a unique live music experience for local fans.  KTVB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare announced a 4% drop in Medicaid provider reimbursement rates following the governor’s order to cut mid-year spending to avoid a budget shortfall. The state will keep paying the usual rates until federal approval is received—some personal care services and certified family homes may be exempt.  KBOI
  • College of Western Idaho President Gordon Jones defended the plan to take over the Ford Idaho Center after the Nampa City Council voted on Oct. 6 to transfer the facility—he said the college will cover $20–25 million in deferred maintenance with revenue from events, land leases and private donations without raising tuition or taxes. The council will vote on the transfer terms on Oct. 20 and the college board is expected to decide in the coming weeks.  KTVB
