COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Due to the impending SNAP suspension on Nov. 1 because of the federal government shutdown, Boise Rescue Mission Ministries said it will continue to operate its shelters in Boise and Nampa—providing hot meals, safe shelter and recovery programs to anyone in need.  KBOI
  • Idaho’s Shoshone-Paiute Tribes are preparing to help Duck Valley families as SNAP benefits will end Nov. 1 due to the government shutdown by using overabundant elk as a traditional food source and placing donation boxes in the community—over half of local families are expected to be affected.  KIVI
  • Nampa officials announced that a 60-foot spruce tree will soon occupy a downtown block—serving as a festive focal point—while local stores prepare for December’s holiday events.  Idaho Press
  • La Esperanza Bakery in Nampa has been a local favorite for nearly two decades as the Gurrola family fills the community with fresh baked treats and cherished recipes in celebration of Day of the Bread. The bakery offers homemade pastries and tamales that bring neighbors together — a true taste of tradition.  KIVI

CRIME NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game seeks tips after a doe and a two-point mule deer were shot and left to waste near Mosquito Flat Reservoir on Oct. 21—officials are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity to come forward.  KBOI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday morning, Nampa School District held its Coffee and Conversations event where Superintendent Gregg Russell explained the need for a 2025 Replacement Supplemental Levy of $16.8 million per year to support smaller classes, updated curriculum, and enhanced programs. The levy, which requires almost $6 million from local taxpayers & $10.8 million from state tax relief, will replace the current measure expiring in June.  KTVB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Filmmaker Andy Anderson from Mountain Home is making a documentary to protect Idaho’s public lands—he started filming in June after federal proposals threatened to sell millions of acres and has traveled to record local voices. The film aims to build a coalition of advocates who value Idaho's outdoors.  KIVI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Saint Alphonsus held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Caldwell Health Plaza—attended by local leaders such as Mayor Jarom Wagoner and other key figures—to mark the opening of a 60,000 square-foot clinic in Caldwell. The facility will welcome patients for primary, urgent and specialty care on November 3.  KBOI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Idaho high school football playoffs are underway today with many 7 p.m. matchups across divisions from 6A to 1A, where teams like Highland versus Mountain View and Owyhee versus Rocky Mountain will compete while top schools in 6A and 5A earn byes. KTVB’s Friday Night Football will air live around 10:40 p.m.—as teams such as Rigby, Timberline, Eagle and Coeur d'Alene advance—while a few games are scheduled for Saturday.  KTVB
  • Caldwell High School won its first 6A state soccer title on Tuesday night at Rocky Mountain High School when the Cougars beat Borah in a penalty shootout after a game with no goals in regulation or extra time — Octavio Sandoval scored the winning penalty for the underdog team that moved up from 5A.  KTVB
