COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Luke's launches its annual Children's Toy Box drive on Friday, Dec. 12 at the Idaho Elks Children's Pavilion; drop-offs occur Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Dec. 15–19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to brighten the holidays for hospitalized kids.  KTVB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College of Idaho announced it will eliminate theater, communications and philosophy majors due to low enrollment; current students will complete their degrees, though some worry about reduced liberal arts focus. The school will add new programs in biochemistry, finance and criminology (teachers will decide spring assignments by January).  KTVB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Canyon County commissioners announced Tuesday that Copper Quill Haven — which scored 90 out of 100 — will operate local animal shelter services, replacing West Valley Humane Society after fourteen years; officials will enter into a formal service agreement following an objection window of seven days.  KTVB

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Gabby, a 7-year-old gray Pitbull mix full of holiday cheer, is ready for adoption at Idaho Humane Society and seeks a home with no other pets. Families can adopt her through the society's website to celebrate the season with extra joy.  KTVB

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • More than 13% of Idahoans moved their homes last year, with one-third of Meridian movers coming from out-of-state, while only 11% of Americans relocated as rising home prices kept many from moving. Lower living costs and remote work continue attracting new residents to our region.  KTVB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Boise State running back Dylan Riley, who scored 12 touchdowns & surpassed 1,000 rushing yards this season, will play in the LA Bowl on Saturday at 6 p.m. in an NFL stadium; he will honor his father's memory after his loss in June.  KIVI
  • Bogus Basin set its snowiest winter record in 1983 with 493 inches of snowfall–nearly double its typical total of 261 inches. The resort also recorded its highest monthly snowfall in Feb. 2019 with 168 inches and three tied records for the snowiest 24-hour period since 1999.  KIVI
