If you register a vehicle in Canyon County, the new local fee won't be on your bill. Voters on Tuesday rejected it, with 58.8% against and 41.2% in favor, according to unofficial results. It needed more than 50% to pass.

  • Cost: $20 per vehicle, $19 per motorcycle, each year
  • Would have run Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2046
  • Split: 30% to cities, 70% to highway districts and county roads
  • Exempt: trailers, boats, and non-highway UTVs and ATVs

The Canyon County commissioners wanted the money for building and repairing local highways, roads and bridges, with congestion relief, safety fixes and safe routes to schools on the list. Local agencies and highway jurisdictions estimate a collective $49 million annual transportation funding shortfall, and the fee would have raised about $4.4 million a year.

The money would have maintained 15 district buildings and 300 acres of lawn and landscaping, according to the district's website. The last levy passed when the district had seven fewer facilities, and Vallivue looks to add more schools as enrollment keeps rising.
